I moved to this beautiful island six years ago even though my parents originated from here sixty-five years ago. so these are a few of my favourite magical places, Cyprus is a place where you can go skiing in the morning and then sunbathe by the beach after lunch.
#1 petra tou romiou (aphrodites birthplace) paphos
Petra Tou Romiou is the birthplace of Aphrodite, It is said that this is the place where Aphrodite met her great love Adonis. tucked away in the wooded area there is a small rocky grotto that has a gentle waterfall that flows into a small pool, you are not allowed to bathe there but they say that beautiful turquoise water has special powers that prolong youth and beauty.
#2 troodos mountains
Troodos mountains are situated in central cyprus and the climate there is slightly cooler than the rest of cyprus especially in the evening. One of the top attractions to visit is panagia tou kykkos which is a stunning monestery.inside it has priceless relics and icons,it was built in the 11th century, you must take a tour of the museum to see byzantine antiques and pre christian relics,i remember when i was younger we went there for a festival and we slept along the corridors of the monestry which a lot of the local people did to have a nice cool evning compared to their usual place they are in cyprus.
#3 caladonia waterfalls -paphos
Although it”s a tricky little walk ,it”s absolutely worth going to see, it will take about an hour to walk around but you will experience the most beautiful waterfall which is about 60 feet high cascading down to a scenic lake. please remember that you must wear comfortable shoes otherwise it might be tricky to walk around. caladonia waterfall is ranked as the 14th best waterfall in Europe.
#4 pano lefkara – larnaca
The beautiful cobblestoned village of Lefkara is absolutely spectacular famously known for it”s embroidery, lacemaking, and silverwork which skills have been passed down through generations. it”s an ideal place to pick up a typical Cypriot souvenir and also has lots of tavernas to have a traditional Cypriot meal. the village is absolutely picture perfect with it”s flower-laden homes and unusual cobblestone walkways amidst the backdrop of the Troodos mountains. it is also nice just to sit at a taverna and have a greek coffee and take in all the atmosphere of your beautiful surroundings.
#5 nissi beach- ayia napa
With it”s beautiful golden-white sand and crystal clear waters where you can walk in the sea for ages and it still doesn’t reach your waist, it is one of the favourite destinations for tourists and locals. Before the war in 1974, it”s neighbouring town Famagusta was known to be the Monte Carlo of the Mediterranean so now Nissi beach has overtaken this role, and also one of the favourite destinations for the rich and famous.
